There is no wealth comparable to knowledge, for the latter can never be taken away by thieves. Knowledge is a friend in this world and the source of happiness in the next.

ในวัยที่ 1 (วัยเด็ก) ไม่แสวงหาวิชา ในวัยที่ 2 (วัยหนุ่มสาว) ไม่แสวงหาทรัพย์ ในวัยที่ 3 (วัยผู้ใหญ่) ไม่แสวงหาธรรม ในวัยที่ 4 (วัยแก่เฒ่า) จักทำอะไรได้

Son, study. Why stay idle ? The uneducated have to labour hard. In this world people honour the learned. Son, study every day.
ลูกเอ๋ย ลูกจงตั้งใจเรียน จะมัวเกียจคร้านอยู่ไย คนไม่มีวิชาความรู้จะต้องทำงานหนัก ในโลกนี้เขาเคารพบูชาคนที่มีวิชาความรู้ ลูกเอ๋ย ลูกจงหมั่นหาความรู้ใส่ตนทุกวันๆ เถิด

Who sharpens the mountain peak ? Who blackens the eyes of a deer ? Who gives fragrance to lily flowers in the pond ? Who gives the child of a well-bred family his manners ? Each comes naturally of itself.
ภูเขาแหลม ใครไปเสี้ยม ตาเนื้อทราย ใครไปแต้มให้ดำ ดอกบัวในสระ ใครไปปรุงให้หอม ความเป็นกุลบุตร ใครไปดัดให้มี แต่ละอย่างเป็นไปเองตามธรรมชาติ

Attentive listening brings knowledge; because of knowledge one becomes intelligent. With intelligence one knows the reason; knowing the reason results in happiness.

Though, for a moment only, an intelligent man waits upon a wise man, quickly he knows the Dharma, as the tongue, the flavour of the soup.
คนฉลาดถึงจะอยู่ใกล้บัณฑิตแม้เพียงชั่วครู่ ก็สามารถรู้แจ้งพระสัทธรรมได้โดยฉับพลัน เหมือนลิ้นรู้รสแกงฉะนั้น

A warrior without a weapon should not enter the battlefield. A wise man without his texts should not travel far. Similarly, a merchant without a caravan should not go abroad.
นักรบที่ปราศจากอาวุธ ไม่ควรเข้าสู่สมรภูมิ บัณฑิตที่ปราศจากตำรา ไม่ควรเดินทางไกล ในทำนองเดียวกัน พ่อค้าที่ปราศจากกองเกวียน ก็ไม่ควรเดินทางไปค้าขายต่างถิ่น

A wise man should not reveal his loss of wealth, anguish, ill-conduct in the family, and his being deceived and disgraced by others.

A wise man is he who knows the language befitting his status, the one worthy of his love, an anger in commensuration of his power.

Approaching when not requested, talking much when not inquired, extolling one's own merits - these three are the characteristics of baseness.

One of little beauty talks much. One of little knowledge boasts a great deal. A pot with little water shakes about. A cow with little milk kicks around.

A king is never fully satisfied with his wealth; neither is a wise man with proverbs. The eye is never fully contented with lovely sights; neither is a sea fully filled with water
พระราชาย่อมไม่อิ่มราชทรัพย์ บัณฑิตย่อมไม่อิ่มสุภาษิต จักษุย่อมไม่อิ่มการดูสิ่งน่ารัก (และ) ทะเลย่อมไม่อิ่มน้ำ

One who is good-looking, youthful, and born of a wealthy family but uneducated will never be prominent, just like the flower of 'kimsuka' tree, which (look brilliant but) has no fragrance.

ศิษย์ที่เรียนศิลปวิทยามากมายด้วยความโลภ แต่ถ้าไม่สามารถอธิบายให้ใครเข้าใจได้ ก็เปรียบเสมือนคนใบ้ ที่ไม่สามารถเล่าความฝันให้ใครๆฟังได้ ฉะนั้น

A porter strikes a raw pot not to break it but to give it a proper shape ; a teacher beats his pupils not to make them suffer but to help them progress
