ศีลเป็นเครื่องจำแนกคนออกจากสัตว์
ศีล แปลว่า ปกติ เป็นวินัยทางธรรมเบื้องต้นของคน เป็นเครื่องจำแนกคนออกจากสัตว์
ศีลทั้ง 5 ข้อ คือ
1. ไม่ฆ่า
2. ไม่ลัก
3. ไม่ประพฤติผิดในกาม
4. ไม่โกหกหลอกลวง
5. ไม่เสพของมึนเมาให้โทษ
ทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างจะต้องมีลักษณะปกติของมันเอง เช่น ปกติของม้าต้องยืน ไม่มีการนอน ถ้าม้านอนก็เป็นการผิดปกติแสดงว่าม้าป่วย
ศีล 5 จึงไม่ใช่ข้อความ แต่หมายถึงปกติของคน นอกจากนี้ยังเป็นเครื่องวัดความเป็นคนได้อีกด้วย
วันใดเรามีศีลครบ 5 ข้อ แสดงว่าวันนั้นเรามีความเป็นคนครบบริบูรณ์ 100%
ถ้ามีศีลเหลือ 4 ข้อ ความเป็นคนก็เหลือ 80 % ใกล้สัตว์เข้าไป 20%
ถ้ามีศีลเหลือ 3 ข้อ ความเป็นคนก็เหลือ 60 % ใกล้สัตว์เข้าไป 40%
ถ้ามีศีลเหลือ 2 ข้อ ความเป็นคนก็เหลือ 40 % ใกล้สัตว์เข้าไป 60%
ถ้ามีศีลเหลือ 1 ข้อ ความเป็นคนก็เหลือ 20 % ใกล้สัตว์เข้าไป 80%
ถ้าศีลทุกข้อขาดหมด ก็หมดความเป็นคน หมดความสงบ หมดความสุข ถึงยังมีชีวิตอยู่ก็เหมือนคนตายแล้ว ความดีใด ๆ ไม่อาจงอกเงยขึ้นมาได้อีก มีชีวิตอยู่เพียงเพื่อจะทำความเดือนร้อนให้แก่ตนเองและผู้อื่นเท่านั้น คนชนิดนี้คือคนประมาทแท้ ๆ

www.webkal.org Sila in Pali language or Precept means ordinary or normal, is the preliminary Dharma-Vinaya or the Norm-Discipline. Besides, it is a meter of measuring the human being also.
The Five Precepts are as follows:
1. To abstain from killing living beings;
2. To abstain from taking what is not given, i.e., from stealing;
3. To abstain from sexual misconduct;
4. To abstain from false speech;
5. To abstain from intoxicants and harmful drugs.
Everything has its unique characteristics, such as, normally the horse must stand, not lie down. If they lie down, it is unusual but shows that they are sick.
The Five Precepts are not only a statement, but mean normally human being and it is a meter of measuring the human being also.
If one day we observe the all Five Precepts, which means that day we are 100% complete human being.
If we observe 4 out of Five Precepts, which means we remain 80% complete human being, 20% animal being.
If we observe 3 out of Five Precepts, which means we remain 60% complete human being, 40% animal being.
If we observe 2 out of Five Precepts, which means we remain 40% complete human being, 60% animal being.
If we observe 1 out of Five Precepts, which means we remain 20% complete human being, 80% animal being.
If we skip the Five Precepts, which means we are out of human being, happiness.
Although you are alive you seem like a dead man. Any goodness never grows up. You are only living for make oneselves or others get in troubles. Such a kind of these people is carelessness.
